Trauma and PTSD: Consideration and Recommendations for Treatment in the Primary Care Setting

Up to 61% of men and 51% of women in the United States report exposure to at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. Research suggests that unaddressed trauma can have a significant impact on individuals' mental and physical health outcomes. Integrated behavioral health professionals working in primary care can greatly help inform patient care through recognition of trauma as well as provide brief intervention. In this 4-hour training, participants will be provided an overview of trauma and practical, evidence-based strategies for its assessment and treatment appropriate to primary care settings.

Instructors:

• Hugo Duenas, LCSW
• Sarah Murray, LCSW - Sarah is a licensed clinical social worker and subject matter expert for classroom training curricula geared toward primary care providers. She works as behavioral health consultant at the Bernard F. Gipson Sr. Eastside Family Health Center of Denver Health, consulting in both Pediatric and Women's Care clinics. She has extensive trauma training, including training in EMDR, and has spent many years working with individuals who have experienced trauma. Ms. Murray is passionate about providing behavioral healthcare in the primary care setting and is eager to share knowledge about how primary care professionals can begin the healing for trauma in our patients.
