ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health Recognized as First Center of Excellence

ACUTE Planning Expansion to Treat Younger Patients in 2019

The ACUTE Center for Eating Disorders at Denver Health is proud to be honored by Anthem Health as a Center of Excellence for Medical Treatment of Severe and Extreme Eating Disorders. ACUTE is the first medical unit ever to achieve this designation in the field of eating disorders. It comes after a rigorous review process.

Founded in 2004, ACUTE is widely recognized for the excellent quality of complex medical care, uniquely experienced multidisciplinary care team and commitment to research and education on the medical complications of eating disorders.

Dr. Phillip S. Mehler, FACP, FAED, CEDS, founder and executive medical director of ACUTE, said, “We are grateful for this recognition as a national Center of Excellence. It validates our stalwart commitment to providing the very best multi-disciplinary medical treatment for this vulnerable and often unrecognized patient population. I’m also pleased to note that our new unit at Denver Health will be expanding from 22 beds to 30 beds in 2019, and that this new capacity will enable us to lower the minimum age for patients to 15 years old.”

ACUTE’s mission is to be the world leader in the medical treatment of patients suffering from extreme forms of eating disorders and the pioneer in offering research and education in the field. The ACUTE team is comprised of more than 180 highly trained medical team members to provide life-saving medical stabilization and multi-disciplinary treatment.
