Denver Health Nationally Recognized with an "A" for Safety

Denver Health Nationally Recognized with an "A" for Safety
Denver Health is proud to announce that we just received an "A" Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2022. This national distinction recognizes Denver Health's achievements in protecting patients from preventable harm and error.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization that assigns an "A," "B," "C," "D" or "F" grade to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm. The Safety Grade is assigned to over 2,600 hospitals nationwide twice annually.

What makes this accomplishment even more significant is that Denver Health improved from the "C" grade we have held since fall 2020. "That achievement is thanks to the entire Denver Health team, and the work they do every day to improve patient safety and experience," said Denver Health Chief Quality Officer Thomas D. MacKenzie, MD. "It is also remarkable because it comes at a time when many of our employees are still feeling strains from the pandemic. To be able to make this positive progress in the midst of great challenges is a testament to our team's dedication and resilience.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

"I thank the workforce and leadership of Denver Health for sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "An "A" Safety Grade is an outstanding achievement, and one that is not possible without a 24/7 effort by the entire health care workforce to protect patients from harm. This community should be proud."
