Denver Health Director of Radiology, David M. Naeger, MD, named 2024 American Roentgen Ray Society Distinguished Educator

The American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS) selected Denver Health’s Director of Radiology, David M. Naeger, MD, as the 2024 ARRS Distinguished Educator.

The ARRS Distinguished Educator award honors those who are improving radiological education by creating and implementing new and innovative educational activities. It celebrates inspirational people who are dedicated to providing education that results in improved participants’ competence and performance, leading to improved patient outcomes, according to the award’s website.

As the Director of Radiology at Denver Health, Naeger has overseen the clinical, research and educational programs of the department. Under his leadership, Denver Health Radiology has experienced tremendous growth, offering a wide range of services and sponsoring fellowships for aspiring subspecialist radiologists.

“This award is an honor and a big surprise,” David Naeger. MD, said. “I believe Denver Health has one of the best radiology departments in the country—rivaling large academic departments and well-run private practices. I’m proud every time this department is recognized for our incredible people and the amazing work done here every day.”

Naeger's excellence as a leader, researcher and educator in radiology has been recognized through numerous honors and awards, including the UCSF Academic Senate Distinction in Teaching Award, the Alliance of Medical Student Educators in Radiology (AMSER) Excellence in Education Award and his induction into two society fellowships. He has served in various leadership roles at Denver Health, the University of Colorado and UCSF, and is a member of multiple medical and radiology societies.

Naeger's research focuses on improving the education of medical students, residents and fellows and enhancing the clinical practice of chest radiology and nuclear medicine,
