Trust in Denver Health Brings Mother Back Again to Deliver Babies

Trust in Denver Health Brings Mother Back Again to Deliver Babies
Trust, safety and genuine care. Those are three things Nikita Palmer said she experienced the first time she gave birth at Denver Health several years ago. Since then, she's come back for the births of three more children and each time she said the experience has been the same.

"I come to Denver Health because I just feel comfortable and safe and I just feel like I can trust my providers here."

We caught up with the Denver mother a few months after the birth of her newest daughter Nikari, a pregnancy that had a few complications, including preeclampsia and anemia. Through it all, she always felt like things were going to be OK and that she got the support she needed to make it through.

Watch Nikita Palmer's story of giving birth at Denver Health in this short video.
"I truly believe that Denver Health is one of the best places in the city, and the state of Colorado to have a baby, because you really can come here for a low-risk pregnancy or a high-risk pregnancy," said Nicki Nguyen, MD, an OBGYN physician. "We have all of those services and it truly is collaborative from the neonatal intensive care unit, for babies that are delivered down to 24 weeks, and also, level-one trauma, for full collaborative care between the trauma surgeons and the obstetricians when needed. We really pride ourselves in practicing evidence-based medicine, and that we want to ensure that the things that we are doing are quality work. Another big strength is that the obstetricians and the midwives really do have a great relationship, working side by side – the end goal being delivering healthy babies and having healthy parents."

Denver Health delivers one-third of the babies born in Denver, encouraging parents to choose their own birth plan, with multiple pain management options available, ability to have a natural birth, an anesthesiologist available in-house 24 hours a day, seven days a week, one of the largest midwifery services in the country, doula care available and one of the lowest C-section rates in the state.

"I felt like I got complete support here at every checkup before birth, during my hospital stay and during delivery," Palmer said. "I highly recommend parents come and deliver their babies here and receive their prenatal care as well, because Denver Health is really great at handling various scenarios that can occur in pregnancies."

Palmer notes that each one of her pregnancies was different and in each case, the team at Denver Health knew how to handle it.

"I felt comfortable that they would be able to do all that they can to maintain me and baby. I felt like my needs were met. It's a wonderful experience from beginning to end."
