Denver Health
Denver Health is an integrated, urban health care system, providing care to the residents in Denver, Colorado. Strong community links exist between Denver Health and the citizens of Denver, and the provision of care in a high quality, cost-effective, culturally sensitive manner is written into the Denver Health mission statement. School-based health centers offer primary medical and behavioral health services to students.Mark Anderson, MD, is a pediatrician who has worked at Denver Health system for over 20 years. His professional interests include disparities in health care, aspects of environmental asthma, medical education and patient care.
Rocky Mountain Poison & Drug Safety Center
The Rocky Mountain Poison & Drug Safety (RMPDS), a division of Denver Health, is a certified regional poison center as recognized by the American Association of Poison Control Centers. The RMPC has a track record of extensive outreach on environmental health issues affecting children, such as lead and mercury intoxication. RMPC has gone into the community to assist in evaluating children with environmental exposures.
The RMPC is proactive in protecting the communities it serves by providing surveillance and monitoring of health effects for populations at risk. The RMPC has trained health professionals working 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The RMPC aims to bring these experiences to the rest of the Rocky Mountain region through the PEHSU program.
- Christopher Hoyte, MD, emergency medicine physician, fellowship director and medical toxicologist at the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety Center. His professional interests include acute care toxicology and drugs of abuse.
- G. Sam Wang, MD, pediatric emergency medicine physician and medical toxicologist. His research interests include topics pertaining to pediatric toxicology, drugs of abuse and the impact of marijuana legalization on the pediatric population.
- Shireen Banerji, PharmD, clinical toxicologist of the RMPC
- Alyssa Guttenberg, RN, nurse educator of the RMPC, has over 15 years of experience in the toxicology industry at the poison center. After completing her nursing doctorate at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and residency, she began her position at the RMPC in 2000.
