How should I prepare for my appointment at the Eye Clinic and do I need to arrive early?
Please bring your driver’s license or another form of identification along with your current insurance card. If you are uninsured, you will be required to provide proof of residence in Denver County.
You will need to check in 20 min prior to your appointment time and expect to be with us for up to 2 hours.
Is dilation required for a comprehensive eye examination?
Dilation is required for all comprehensive eye examinations in order for your doctor to visualize all structures in the eye and to form an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. For children, this also helps your doctor determine the most accurate glasses prescription.
Is dilation safe?
Dilation is safe for patients of all ages including newborns and the elderly. Your care team will thoroughly review your medical history at the time of your visit prior to instillation of dilation drops.
How long can I expect my eyes to be dilated and what are the side effects?
You can expect temporary light sensitivity, enlarged pupils, and blurred near vision for 4-6 hours in most cases. The effects of drops used for children may last 10-12 hours. Pupils may appear larger for longer than this time frame. This is normal and is not a cause for concern.
