Wisdom Teeth Removal

Call to Schedule Your Wisdom Teeth Removal Consultation

Denver Health's Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are specialized in wisdom teeth removal. Our experts can help you determine if you are a good candidate for this procedure. Call today and schedule an appointment - no referral is needed!

Understanding Causes and Risk Factors

If you need to have your wisdom teeth removed, you are not alone. Wisdom teeth are usually removed only if they cause problems or are likely to in the future.

Symptoms and Diagnosis

Wisdom tooth removal is a very common procedure that we recommend to our patients who have a tooth that: is too badly damaged or decayed to be saved by a root canal, has an infected nerve, is affecting normal tooth growth, is loose due to gum disease or has a loss of supporting bone, gums, or tissue. Let Denver Health’s skilled team of doctors listen to your symptoms and medical history, to determine if you are a good candidate for treatment.

Treatment and Prevention

Denver Health’s oral surgeons focus on effective symptom management and proactive prevention. We understand that your comfort matters most, and we look for treatments that can ease your symptoms and prevent complications. The procedure takes anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes and most patients will be put under anesthesia to reduce the pain. If the tooth being extracted is covered by gum tissue, a cut will be made to access the tooth. Forceps will be used to grasp the tooth and they will be used to rock it back and forth to loosen it. The surgeon will pull the tooth and a blood clot will form in the empty socket. A gauze pad will be packed into the socket. In some people stitches may be used to close the gum edges. Healing takes about two weeks.
