Denver Health School of Medical Laboratory Science

School of Medical Laboratory Science Micro2Program Overview

The School of Medical Laboratory Science is an 11-month hospital-based education program, offered by Denver Health, designed to provide theoretical knowledge and student and clinical laboratory experiences in all laboratory disciplines. The program begins in early January and finishes in mid-November.

Part of the mission of Denver Health is to participate in the education of the next generation of health care professionals. With this in mind, the laboratory professionals of Denver Health are committed to offering a quality education that will provide highly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists for the future needs of healthcare services locally and nationally. A list of expected entry-level competencies upon successful completion of the program is available upon request.

Denver Health Medical Center is an acute care hospital with 525-licensed beds with more than 26,000 admissions annually; it is a Level I Trauma Center for adults and Level II Trauma Center for pediatrics. Denver Health integrates acute hospital and emergency care with public and community health to deliver preventive, primary and acute care services. This integration promotes continuity of care for each patient and assures efficient and cost-effective delivery of health care. Denver Health Medical Center Pathology & Laboratory Services is a full-service laboratory which provides laboratory testing and consultation services to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury.

The nationally accredited laboratory is an integrated, efficient, and high quality department with all areas of laboratory science – clinical chemistry, hematology, hemostasis, urinalysis, immunology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics and transfusion services. The work volume will provide the students with an exceptional learning environment and unique testing experiences not seen in other Denver metro area laboratories. 

Class size is eight students. The program is offered over 46 weeks, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Although hours may vary depending on the specific learning experience.)

All students admitted to the program will receive copies of the program’s policies. They are available to applicants upon request.
