Transgender Behavioral Health and Therapy

LGBTQ+ Health Services has a transgender-specific integrated care behavioral health provider available for short-term or long-term therapy, as well as interviews for gender-affirming surgery letters of support.

This provider is available to any of Denver Health’s transgender/gender noncomforming patients, offering affirming services to address all manner of mental health difficulties or stressors in adults, adolescents, and children.

Behavioral Health Services for Transgender Individuals

Behavioral health counseling/therapy services cover many domains including depression, anxiety, behavioral problems, life stressors, grief, interpersonal conflict, sexuality, trauma, neurodiversity, dissociation, and exploring gender. Your main focus does not need to be your gender identity in order to access services with this provider. Intensive outpatient (IOP) services and primary substance use disorder services are not currently available. Behavioral health services are offered in person, by phone or by video.

This provider provides individual therapy (not family or couples counseling), though for children, some family work may be offered to support the individual patient. Our Behavioral Health provider is also present in our vaginoplasty surgery clinic in order to offer support as needed while you prepare for or recover from surgery. If our Behavioral Health provider does not have current openings for new patients, they will provide you with referrals/resources to access other affirming providers in the community.

Insurance Coverage and Payment

Individual therapy for Medicaid patients is covered. If you have private insurance, please contact your insurance company and ask about their coverage of Denver Health’s Behavioral Health in Integrated Care to ensure coverage.

If you are interested in accessing Behavioral Health services, please contact one of our patient advocates in order to have an initial appointment scheduled (303-602-5699).
