Behavioral Health

Both the mental health and addiction teams at Denver Health treat a wide variety of child, adolescent, and adult behavioral, emotional and substance abuse disorders. Patients of all ages work with our experienced team to develop treatment plans that address their unique needs. The goal of treatment is to improve self-care, social and emotional functioning.

Our Services

Denver Health provides therapy and programs to patients of all ages who are struggling with mental health issues in both an inpatient and outpatient setting. Denver Health’s inpatient programs are for people with mental health problems that require hospitalization. After inpatient assistance, you may be able to transfer to an outpatient program. Denver Health’s outpatient programs are for people who do not require hospitalization.

 

Adult

Denver Health provides both inpatient and outpatient mental health services to adults, age 18 and older.

• Inpatient - The Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health unit at Denver Health has 42 beds and serves adult patients experiencing mental health issues requiring hospitalization or those having difficulty meeting basic living needs due to a combination of mental, physical or substance abuse problems.
• Outpatient - The Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health unit at Denver Health offers individual therapy, couples therapy and group psychotherapy, along with medication evaluation and treatment. Outpatient mental health focuses on improving self-care, social and emotional functioning.

 

Adolescent and Child

Denver Health offers a variety of mental health programs, services and resources for children and adolescents suffering from emotional difficulties.

• Inpatient - The Adolescent Psychiatry Inpatient unit at Denver Health is a 21-bed unit for children and adolescents, ages 12-17 years, with significant emotional and behavioral health issues.

Denver Health’s Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit now provides substance detoxification services for adolescents ages 12-17 years. This program allows adolescents to have a safe withdrawal from substances, stabilization of other behavioral health symptoms, and connection to community treatment and recovery resources. The unit can be accessed through the Denver Health emergency department or by contacting the Denver Health transfer center from another hospital.

• Outpatient - The Adolescent and Child Outpatient program at Denver Health helps children between the ages of 2-17 years on a wide variety of behavioral and emotional disorders, ranging from adjustment issues to major mental illnesses.

 

Specialized

In addition to inpatient and outpatient behavioral health programs and a variety of addiction programs, Denver Health also provides consultation-liaison psychiatry services and emergency mental health services, assists the Denver judicial system in psychiatry services and provides neuropsychology evaluations.

Addiction

Denver Health provides treatment for substance abuse disorders in a confidential and supportive environment.

• Addiction Recovery Center and Suboxone Treatment - The Denver Health Addiction Recovery Center provides treatment for non-opiate substance disorders and suboxone (buprenorphine) treatment to opioid dependent patients.
• Adolescent Substance Abuse Treatment - The Substance Abuse Treatment, Education and Prevention Program provides outpatient, psychiatric and substance abuse treatment to adolescents ages 12-21.
• Denver CARES Detoxification and Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation - Outpatient Behavioral Health Services offers Comprehensive Addictions Rehabilitation and Evaluation Services for treatment of non-opiate drug and alcohol substance use disorders.
• Methadone Clinic Opiate Addiction Treatment - The Opiate Addiction Treatment program at Denver Health provides opioid/narcotic replacement therapy utilizing methadone and uboxone (buprenorphine) for patients meeting specific criteria for admission.
• The Recovery Program for Women & Families - The Recovery Program for Women & Families is a program designed specifically to help pregnant women, parenting women and families who need substance abuse treatment. Each woman that comes to the program is treated with respect and offered a safe environment in which to heal.

 

Colorado Crisis Services

In addition to Denver Health’s own services, help is also available from Colorado Crisis Services, a program provided by the Colorado Department of Human Services’ Office of Behavioral Health 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Support and professional counseling, including suicide prevention resources, are available for you or a loved one, and the service is free and confidential.
