About Denver Health Pediatrics at Denver Public Schools
Denver Health’s School-based Health Centers (SBHC) form a large network of 19 health centers located inside Denver Public School (DPS) campuses that provide medical, mental health, dental and behavioral health care to any DPS student and sibling(s), including children enrolled in DPS-affiliated Early Childhood Education programs at no charge to families. We also offer health education and family planning, as well as insurance enrollment and advising services.
Our Services
- Well child/well adolescent checks, which meet the requirements of school, sports, camp and employment physicals
- Prescriptions and medications and routine lab tests
- Immunizations- including COVID-19 vaccinations
- Care for chronic conditions such as asthma and depression
- Care for acute injury and illness
- Reproductive health services including pregnancy testing and birth control evaluation, dispensing and management
- Telemedicine Services
- Testing and treatment for COVID-19, flu, RSV
- Testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
- Mental health and substance use counseling
- Psychiatry
- Dental screenings, routine cleanings, sealants, fluoride varnish applications and dental x-rays (at select locations)
- Parent and child health education
Additional Information about School-based Health Centers
If you do not have insurance, community health care advisors and enrollment specialists are available at all SBHC sites to assist your student and family in determining insurance eligibility and completing the application process for one of the following programs: Health First Colorado (Medicaid), CHP+, Connect for Health Colorado and Discount Programs (DFAP & CICP).

For referring a patient or student to School-based Health Centers, please send an email to SBHC@DHHA.org and include your name and contact information as well as the subject of the referral.
Parents or guardians must sign consent forms before a student may use most of our services. Once this is complete, students may use the health center at any time during the school year. Consents are good for four school years.

Students in grades 6 - 12 are able to go to the clinic alone. However, children in preschool through fifth grade can be seen alone, if consented and at the request of a school staff member as long as parents are aware and participating in visit, otherwise a parent must be present.
Supporting family communication is a core value of our school-based health centers. SBHC staff encourage students to discuss their health with their parents / guardians. However, parents are not routinely notified when a student uses the health center, except by student request or when the staff becomes aware of serious health concerns.
In accordance with Colorado State Law, Denver Health School-Based Health Centers will allow students (if requested) to consent themselves into certain confidential services beginning with the 2021-2022 school year. Confidential services include both behavioral health and reproductive/sexual health services. Parental or guardian consent will still be required for the use of all other services for students under the age of 18. Additional background information can be found here.

The first School-based Health Center opened in 1987 at Abraham Lincoln High School. Our clinics serve more than 13,000 students a year at our 19 locations. Denver Health School-based Health Centers became Denver Health Pediatrics at Denver Public Schools in August of 2021. The new name better represents the high level of care students receive at our school-based health centers.
